Extending Meraki Alerts With Webhooks

The Meraki Cloud Dashboard is a powerful cloud-based management app for the Meraki family of products. Among the many features, this dashboard offers is a wide variety of event alerts. Though event alerts can be emailed to network administrators, the Meraki Cloud Dashboard also includes webhooks to push event notifications to other apps.

Webhooks send alerts in a JSON formatted message to unique URLs. Both HTTP and HTTPS connections are supported. This helps extend how alerts can be used with the Meraki Cloud dashboard. For instance, the dashboard can send an alert through the webhook system to a service like Zapier. Zapier can then be used to create an automated chain of events that occur when it receives that notification.

Adding new webhooks to the Meraki dashboard is easy. First, go to the Network-Wide pane. Then go to Configure and Alerts. In the Alerts section is an area for webhooks. In this area add the name of a webhook, the URL to send alerts to, and the token for communicating with that webhook. Webhooks can also be tested from that same area.
