Show Commands Let You See Just About Anything On Your Juniper Device
A crucial part of managing and administering Juniper devices is performing system software monitoring. Fortunately, the Junos OS that powers Juniper devices provides a range of commands that give you insight to some of the immediate stats and data about your devices and their software. Some of those commands output straightforward, rudimentary data while others give you extensive, in-depth information. Knowing each of the dozen Show commands not only makes you more capable of finding the information you need, it’ll save you time by not saddling you with tons of data you weren’t interested in.
For example, ‘show system information’ is the equivalent of a high-altitude fly over — it provides the high-level system information for a device like model number, Junos OS release and hostname. It has no options. Meanwhile, ‘show system processes’ gives a much more complex output — it provides information about software processes running on the device with controlling terminals. Its list of options is huge — the command’s output can be morphed and filtered to provide a high degree of precision.
