What is the Meraki Scanning API?
The Cisco Meraki cloud collects a wealth of real-time location data from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices. But application developers still need a way of accessing this. They do this through the Meraki Scanning API, which can provide data to a host of location applications as well as data warehouses and business intelligence systems.
The API works by aggregating raw data from network access points and sending it to its owners in the form of JSON approximately every minute. This data is useful for many types of businesses. For example, a retail outlet can use it to see how many people are visiting their store (and which departments they are visiting.) It can even tell them how many people are looking in the window.
You configure the API in the Meraki Dashboard by logging onto it and going to Network Wide > General, where you will enable the API.
