Summary
What is Zero Touch Provisioning?
There may be many different options for onboarding a vEdge device into SD-WAN infrastructure, but the most convenient deployment option is the implementation known as Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP).
Instead of onboarding a vEdge device manually, which is time consuming and prone to human error, a device with ZTP implemented deploys and configures automatically, streamlining the process of introducing hardware into an SD-WAN and preventing human error.
On boot up, the device uses DHCP to acquire a dynamic IP address, as well as the address of the default gateway and the local domain name of a provided DNS server on the same network as the new device being provisioned. The device then authenticates itself with the ZTP server, sending its chassis and serial number for authentication. Once it is authenticated, it registers and establishes a secure connection with the SD-WAN, joining the network automatically.
