Is Nornir Automation the Right Choice for You?
IT lives and dies by automation today. The world of IT has become incredibly complex, so automation tools like Ansible and Nornir were created. Which tool is the right automation tool for your environment, though?
Though Ansible is a popular choice for IT automation, it can be restrictive. Ansible is based on YAML which makes it easy to learn but quickly shows its limitations. On the other hand, Nornir is Python-based. That means that Nornir's learning curve may be a little steeper, but it's much more powerful.
Unlike Ansible, Nornir has full access to Python. With the power of Python, an experienced developer can quickly create scripts for just about any purpose. If you need to automate switch deployment, update NTP servers, and analyze network traffic with AI, you can do that with Nornir. Likewise, because Nornir is built on and uses Python, those skills can be transferred to other tasks.
Nornir does require more work to configure, but it's an automation system that can have huge gains with long-term use.
