What is Multicast Routing?
Multicast IP Routing is a networking routing concept where a data packet is sent from one source sender to multiple receivers. This IP routing strategy is categorically different from the other popular IP routing strategy known as broadcast routing, where data packets are sent to every local link to effectively reach the target receiver of the data. This process of sending data through individual links to find their target receiver causes interruptions as links have to receive and process data packets that aren't necessarily important to that link or receiver.
Multicast routing works on the principle of maintaining a Multicast Address and associating that multicast address with several receivers that intend to receive that specific multicast data packet. In doing so, data packets can be sent to the multicast address and passed along to several of the receivers interested in gaining access to this data.
