What is Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)?
Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is an AWS service that allows you to provision resources in a virtual network. Within this network, you have total control. You can select your own IP address range and create subnets as well as configure route tables and network gateways.
You can further customize your VPC by creating a public-facing subnet that your web servers can use for accessing the Internet while at the same time placing your backend servers in a private-facing subnet. Within each subnet that you create you can also implement layers of security for controlling access to your EC2 instances through the use of security groups and network ACLs (access control lists).
You can quickly create a VPC by using either the AWS Management Console or the command-line interface. The service can automatically configure your network based on one of four basic topologies. It also provides a tool for validating your network.
