What is the AAA Security Framework and How Can It Help Keep Networks More Secure?
AAA or Authentication, Authorization and Accounting is a common security framework that is designed to build access control policies for how users gain access and use a protected network. By implementing an AAA security policy, administrators can build detailed control policies that provide granularity into accessing computers or network-connected devices, audit usage , and capture actions taken from network-connected devices.
AAA aims to provide an end-to-end security policy that provides control over use from start to finish. Starting with Authentication, AAA aims to ensure users are properly identified by providing validation credentials such as username and password. Authorization aims to determine what resources that users have access to by building sophisticated authentication and user-based role access. Lastly, Accounting leverages monitoring and analytics policies to detail how long users are connected to the network and what resources were being used.
