New Course: Google Compute Engine: Qualified Developer
Trainer Garth Schulte recently completed his “Google Compute Engine: Qualified Developer” video training course! This 6-hour course gets you up to speed on the Google Cloud Platform’s IaaS product. The 26-video course also covers the exam objectives for the Google Qualified Compute Engine Developer certification.
After Garth completed this course, we caught up with him to find out more. Here’s what Garth had to say:
What was your favorite Nugget to create?
Besides all of them?! 🙂 The Load Balancing Nuggets. Google made something extremely complicated and expensive in the real world, super simple and cheap in Compute Engine. In one of the demonstration Nuggets, we build a global cross-region load balanced network and distribute traffic across clusters of virtual machines located in US and Europe, in under 10 minutes! It was such a pleasure to show off this amazing technology.
What roadblocks did you come across when creating this training and how did you overcome them?
None. Google provides us with easy-to-use and consistent tools in the Web UI, CLI, and API to interact with Compute Engine. Once you understand the concepts and know your way around these tools, roadblocks get smashed!
From a student perspective, what did you keep in mind when creating this course? By striving to provide a balanced learning experience through concept and demonstration Nuggets. Watch. Learn. DO!
Any outside-of-the-box tips for students to get the most out of your course?
Watch a concept Nugget, then use the demonstration Nugget(s) as an opportunity for hands-on learning. Pause the Nugget after each step or command, and build something with me. It’s a great feeling and infuses confidence when you accomplish something while you learn.
What’s the ONE thing you hope learners take away from this training?
I hope learners see the potential of Google Compute Engine and embrace the future of IT in these cloud technologies. I also hope they take away the knowledge required to pass the Google Compute Engine Qualified Developer exam, and acquire their GCE creds!
What’s one real-world application someone can expect to use, thanks to this course?
Whether you’re a system administrator, developer, or both, this course has something for you. It covers the basics and beyond of Google’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service product, and will provide you with the skills necessary to construct your own kick-ass linux or windows-based private networks using all of the tools available.
