Why You Should Use GPOs to Control Windows Updates
One of the most critical aspects of administering updates is to control how and when updates are performed. A Group Policy Object (GPO) in your domain can tightly control this according to your exact requirements for both Microsoft Updates and Windows Updates. Using a GPO, you can also control how or if updates are downloaded from other hosts on the internet besides Microsoft's own update servers, or from within your own organizations update peers.
Another very important part of this is to avoid updates at inopportune times or update reboots during business hours. A carefully configured GPO can assist here as well by forestaling those updates or reboots.
