What is QoS and How Does It Apply in an SD-WAN Architecture?
QoS or Quality of Service is a networking strategy that aims to prioritize the performance of certain network-connected devices over others with the intent to ensure quality service for critical prioritized applications.
Implementing a QoS strategy can be done through applications and appliances that provide control over network transmission, such as setting policy-based routing to achieve granular control over how applications send and receive data within a network.
This added control can provide administrators with the ability to redistribute data transmission in a network and protect certain applications from getting overloaded, which can greatly benefit organizations that are already tight on resources. QoS strategies can also be applied to SD-WAN architecture. As data packets reach the edge of an SD-WAN network, these edge nodes can implement the same type of QoS strategies to determine how and where data is transmitted within the SD-WAN network.
