CBT Nuggets trainer Keith Barker recently released his new CompTIA CySA+ Threat Management course that prepares IT pros for the new CySA+ exam.

Keith's course uses a hands-on approach to walk learners through the threat management objectives covered in the certification exam, including environmental and network reconnaissance, how to secure corporate environments, and how to respond to security threats.

We asked Keith about his new course and how you can get more out of your training:

Q: Why should companies certify or train their IT professionals in CySA+? Implementing security controls and countermeasures are important and being able to interpret the logs and output from those system is important when identifying or investigating a compromise or attempted compromise of security.

Q: Who should take this course? What kind of career will CySA+ set you up for in the IT industry? The CySA+ helps to bridge the gap between CompTIA's Security+ and CompTIA's CASP.  Someone who is preparing for or brushing up their skills in the world of security analysis or cybersecurity forensics would benefit from this course.

Q: Any out-of-the-box tips for learners to get the most out of your course? When learning about new concepts, continue to ask how that applies to the company you work for, or the companies you consult for, and work toward applying appropriate countermeasures and controls whenever needed to improve security.

Q: What's the coolest real-world application someone can expect to use, thanks to this course? If someone began analyzing their existing data, which may include syslog, firewall logs, IPS/IDS output, netflow data, etc., and began to notice trends and as a result dig in further to uncover an advanced persistent threat (APT) and was able to stop it, that would be the coolest real-world application of this training.

Q: What course(s) or certification(s) should learners complete before diving into your wireless course? Someone should have Network+ and Security+ (or equivalent) to take full advantage of the training in the CySA+.

Q: What course(s) or certification(s) should learners look to jump into after they complete your this course? The next step in the CompTIA track would be the CompTIA CASP.

Q: What's the most "Mr. Robot" style clever attack (attempted or successful) you've encountered while consulting around security issues, and what video in the course would have helped you detect it or protect the network from it? I have seen some very elaborate phishing and vishing attacks, with excellent timing and excellent landing pages that mimic the official websites users go to. The videos that address social engineering and phishing attacks would prepare a person to not fall for those types of attacks.
