AI-103 training FAQs

What experience do I need before taking this AI-103 course?

Microsoft expects candidates to have practical experience developing applications in Python and a working knowledge of Azure services. You should already understand general AI and generative AI concepts at a functional level. If you are new to Python or have not yet worked with Azure, you may find the pace challenging. Gaining hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI Service or Azure AI Foundry prior to starting will help you grasp the material more quickly.

How does AI-103 compare to the AI-102 exam?

AI-102 covered a broader set of Azure AI services (including Language, Vision, Speech, and Bot Service) as standalone topics. AI-103 focuses primarily on Microsoft Foundry as the central platform, placing heavier emphasis on agentic solutions, multi-agent orchestration, and responsible AI for production workloads. If you already hold the AI-102 certification, you will recognize some domain areas, but the agentic and Foundry-specific content is substantially new. AI-103 is now the primary associate-level path for developers building AI apps on Azure.

Is the AI-103 exam hard?

The exam is challenging if you only have theoretical exposure to AI. Microsoft tests applied knowledge, so expect scenario-based questions where you must evaluate and choose the correct services, architectures, or configurations. The responsible AI and security sections often trip up candidates who focus solely on core building blocks. Hands-on practice with Foundry, particularly building and evaluating agents, is the best preparation alongside this course.

What does the AI-103 exam format look like?

The AI-103 exam uses the standard Microsoft Certification format: multiple choice, case studies, drag-and-drop ordering, and short answer questions. You have around 100-120 minutes and typically see between 40 and 60 questions, though Microsoft does not publish exact counts. Case study sections appear at the beginning and cannot be revisited once you move past them, so read each one carefully before answering. There is no oral or coding component.

Is the AI-103 certification worth it for my career?

If your team builds or plans to build AI applications on Azure, this certification validates that you can deliver end-to-end solutions, not just prototypes. Employers seeking Azure AI engineers increasingly look for proven expertise in agents, RAG, and responsible AI in production settings. Because the certification is relatively new, the pool of certified professionals is still small, offering early credential holders a competitive advantage.

Who is AI-103 training for?

This course is designed for Azure developers and engineers who are proficient in Python, work with Azure services, and want to build production-grade AI apps and agents on Microsoft Foundry. It is ideal if you collaborate with architects, data scientists, or DevOps teams on AI projects and want the AI-103 certification to validate your skills.

What our learners say

  • It feels like the best and the brightest people are training with you — and they are just hanging out with you and showing you the ropes.

John McCann | IT manager and CBT Nuggets learner
  • Very easy and fun way to learn. Keith Barker is my favorite, he'll throw in jokes here and there and it makes me remember certain study points. I highly recommend this app and purchasing subscriptions, it is truly worth the money.

Joshua E. | IT Systems Administrator
  • Since we’ve implemented our official career progression plan, we’ve probably had 40 certifications passed across the team [within a year]. A lot of that is due to our team being able to utilize CBT Nuggets as a training resource.
