Do I need the PSPO I before taking this course?

No, PSPO I is not required, but solid working experience as a Product Owner or product manager is recommended. Scrum.org expects candidates to apply the Scrum framework in practice, not just in theory. If you are new to Scrum mechanics, start with PSPO I. This course assumes foundational knowledge and focuses on advanced application.

How hard is the PSPO II exam compared to the PSPO I?

Yes, PSPO II is significantly more challenging. While PSPO I tests foundational framework knowledge, PSPO II evaluates your ability to apply Scrum to complex, real-world product scenarios. Both exams share an 85% passing score, but PSPO II features scenario-based questions that test practical judgment and trade-offs.

Is the PSPO II worth it compared to other product management certifications?

It depends on your career goals. As a Scrum-specific credential, PSPO II holds significant weight in agile organizations and product teams. The skills covered (product strategy, stakeholder management, value measurement, and agile leadership) are broadly applicable across product management roles.

What does the PSPO II exam format look like?

The exam is online and timed at 60 minutes. It consists of 40 questions, a mix of multiple choice and true/false. While the exam is technically open book, it prohibits assistance from other people, previously obtained answers, and AI tools such as ChatGPT or Copilot. Paper copies of reference materials, however, are allowed. Scrum.org does not require you to attend a course to sit the exam. You can purchase the assessment directly. This course is designed to build the kind of applied understanding that the exam tests, rather than simply covering what you could read in the Scrum Guide on your own.

Who should probably wait before taking this course?

If you have never worked as a Product Owner or in a product role within a Scrum team, this course will likely feel disconnected from your experience. The content on business strategy, stakeholder alignment, and organizational design assumes you have run into these challenges in real work - not just read about them. Similarly, if you are still building confidence with core Scrum mechanics, a PSPO I prep course is a more appropriate next step. This course is for people who have been doing the job for a while and want to get better at the harder parts of it.
