BIG-IP LTM Specialist: Maintain and Troubleshoot EXAM 301B FAQs: Cost, Training, Value

What is F5? What is an F5 certification?

F5 is a leading provider of application delivery and security services. F5 specializes in software solutions, but they also offer hardware appliances that optimize the performance, availability and security of applications in data centers and cloud environments. F5 maintains several certifications related to managing and optimizing their tech. Earning an F5 certification tells companies who use F5 technology that as an IT professional you're entirely competent with their technology ecosystem.

What is BIG-IP LTM?

BIG-IP is the name F5 uses for their suite of software modules, and LTM is their Local Traffic Manager, a sophisticated application delivery controller that optimizes app delivery with intelligent traffic distribution. With the F5 BIG-IP LTM it's possible to ensure high availability, scalability and performance in applications across a distributed enterprise network. Planning, implementing, managing and troubleshooting the LTM is difficult, and F5 offers certifications related to that skill set.

What certification does this BIG-IP LTM course prepare me for?

This course helps prepare you for F5's BIG-IP LTM Certified Technical Specialist certification. Earning the BIG-IP LTM Specialist requires passing two exams: 301A and 301B. This course covers the material you'll find on 301B: Maintain and Troubleshoot. 301B is a test of a network engineer's familiarity with designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting advanced F5 product features for enhancing the effectiveness of an F5 Application Delivery Network.

How does the BIG-IP LTM work?

F5's BIG-IP LTM manages the traffic between clients and users requesting applications and the servers that host them. Predefined rules help the traffic manager direct requests to the appropriate virtual servers which helps manage load balancing, SSL offloading and app-specific policies that would otherwise risk clogging network resources. The LTM virtual servers interact directly with backend servers to maintain performance, scalability and security requirements, which the LTM continuously monitors.

Who should earn the BIG-IP LTM certification?

The BIG-IP LTM Specialist certification is a good career move for network administrators, system engineers and IT professionals who interact with managing application delivery and app delivery infrastructures. The F5 Certified Administrator is a mandatory prerequisite for the BIG-IP LTM, so you'll want to have extensive familiarity with the F5 family of products. If your employer's network relies on F5 technologies, the BIG-IP LTM cert is an excellent mid-career certification.
