For IT leaders

What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course

For IT leaders: When an organization moves to Microsoft 365, the help desk often absorbs the learning curve. Common examples include basic Outlook questions, confusion over where files belong, and uncertainty about how Teams fits with other Microsoft apps. This foundational course gives staff a shared baseline across the browser-based apps, so fewer basic how-to questions become escalations.

Role fit: This course suits non-technical staff, new hires, and any team adopting Microsoft 365. No prior Outlook or Teams experience is assumed. IT Practitioners will get a functional overview of what end users see. Administration topics such as configuration, licensing, and deployment are covered in separate training.

Time investment: The full course runs about 9.5 hours across 10 skills of roughly one hour each:

  • Portal navigation
  • Teams
  • OneDrive
  • SharePoint
  • Outlook Mail and Calendar
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote for the web

The instructor expects learners to pick only the skills they need. A user who works only in desktop Excel can skip Excel for the web.

Change-management notes:

  • Learners may not see every app shown, depending on your licensing.
  • The web apps have less functionality than the desktop versions.
  • On-premises versions such as SharePoint 2019 will look different.
  • Brief your team on these points before assigning the course.

How CBT Nuggets supports rollout: Use Playlists to assign only the skills that match each group’s tools and workflows. This keeps onboarding focused and the time commitment predictable.

Team Impact

How this training helps your team succeed

IT teams assign this course so staff spend less time asking how Microsoft 365 works and more time getting work done. Simona Millham walks through the same day-to-day situations your people face: scheduling a Teams meeting and setting who can bypass the lobby, adjusting Outlook settings and organizing mail, and finding team-site content in SharePoint by following the colleagues they work with.

Because the course is split into standalone skills, a Team Lead can assign only the apps a role actually uses. Someone who works in desktop Excel can skip Excel for the web, while a new hire can take the full path.

  • Fewer basic "how do I" requests: Staff learn to find their available apps in the Office 365 portal, adjust Outlook settings, and organize mail with flags, categories, and folders on their own.
  • Better-run meetings: Teams users learn to choose between Meet now and Schedule a meeting, use breakout rooms, and control lobby settings. These are the meeting options people most often ask the help desk about.
  • More consistent collaboration: Employees learn to save and share files in OneDrive, add content to SharePoint team sites, and set up OneNote notebooks so that notes meant for a group can be shared with coworkers.
  • More professional everyday output: Staff learn to turn raw lists into PivotTable summaries in Excel, structure long Word documents with styles and a table of contents, and share PowerPoint files so coworkers can collaborate on presentations.
