For IT leaders
What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course
For IT leaders: Service provider networks fail in costly ways when engineers know one protocol well but cannot connect the core, edge, and automation layers. This course builds that full-stack fluency for 350-501 SPCOR, the core exam for CCNP Service Provider.
Role fit: Assign it to network engineers and Team Leads with three to five years of service provider infrastructure experience. It is not entry-level. It covers IS-IS, OSPF, BGP security and convergence, MPLS and LDP, segment routing with IS-IS and OSPF, multicast, QoS trust boundaries, and automation with Cisco Network Services Orchestrator and configuration management tools.
Time investment: Plan for about 73 hours across 66 skills per learner, plus lab time. Most teams spread this over several months instead of scheduling it as a single sprint.
Change-management notes: The first skill walks learners through building their own Cisco service provider lab. The instructor warns that IOS XR instability on EVE-NG can appear hours or even a day after setup, so budget time for lab validation before deeper skills. App-hosting content covers IOS XR and IOS XE containers. Coordinate with security owners before engineers run third-party apps on production platforms.
How CBT Nuggets supports the outcome: Hands-on CLI demonstrations and guided lab builds give your team repeatable practice. Engineers can then take what they learn into production change windows.
