For IT leaders
What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course
Linux teams supporting small and midsize mixed networks often depend on one or two senior admins who know how DNS, DHCP, Samba, NFS, LDAP, email, and firewalls fit together. When those people are unavailable, outages last longer and escalations pile up. This LPIC-2 course helps IT Directors and Training Managers standardize that professional-level knowledge across the team.
Role fit: This course is built for IT Practitioners and Team Leads with three to five years of Linux administration experience. Assign LPIC-1 first to anyone newer to Linux. The course covers both exams, 201-450 and 202-450. Topics include kernel compilation, system recovery and bootloaders, RAID, LVM and encryption, backup strategy, network troubleshooting, and core services such as DNS, web servers, SSL and proxies, PAM/LDAP, Samba, security tools, and virtual private networks.
Time investment: The course has 25 skills totaling about 22 hours of video, with each skill running roughly 50 minutes. Learners can complete one skill per week without pulling admins off production work. Plan extra time for hands-on practice, because the instructor demonstrates Linux administration tasks using virtual machines, including VirtualBox-based lab environments.
Risk and change management: Several skills cover security and resilience work directly, including backup planning, encryption, perimeter security resources, VPN concepts, and capacity monitoring. These are topics that auditors and incident reviews often examine. Sequence the services-focused skills to match the systems your team is actively rolling out or maintaining.
How CBT Nuggets helps: Use Playlists to assign each exam's skills in order, and use Team Reporting to track progress across the team. Practice Exams help confirm readiness before your team members sit for the certification.
