Is the Cisco CCT Data Center worth it?

Yes, the Cisco CCT Data Center certification is mostly worth it, but only for IT technicians and data center personnel with very little experience or no experience at all. Maybe you just started your first data center job -- the CCT Data Center cert is definitely worth it. But if you’ve got a bit of data center experience already, you can skip it and just move on to the CCNA or even the CCNP Data Center.

Is Cisco CCT Data Center necessary for earning the CCNA?

No, the CCT Data Center isn’t necessary to earn the CCNA. The Cisco CCNA has no prerequisites and you can attempt it at any time. Before you attempt the CCNA, Cisco does recommend at least one year of experience with implementing and administering Cisco solutions -- and that’s what the CCT Data Center represents. So although the CCT Data Center isn’t necessary, having it will make earning the CCNA much easier.

How much does the Cisco CCT Data Center cost?

The CCT Data Center costs $125. You earn the Cisco CCT Data Center by taking Cisco’s exam 010-151 DCTECH. The CCT Data Center exam is 90 minutes long and has 75 questions and costs $125 to attempt. It’s a good idea to get training beforehand because Cisco doesn’t offer refunds on the exam if you fail. Make sure you add the cost of training to the $125 it costs to take the CCT Data Center.

Is the Cisco CCT Data Center difficult?

No, the Cisco CCT Data Center isn’t particularly difficult. The CCT Data Center isn’t difficult because it was intentionally designed to be just an entry-level introduction to basic concepts and simple skills around managing Cisco data center technology. Cisco developed the CCT Data Center to be just difficult enough to show that a new IT technician knows how to perform basic data center job tasks.

Does the Cisco CCT Data Center certification expire?

Yes, the Cisco CCT Data Center expires after three years. The CCT Data Center cert is only valid for three years, but it’s easy to recertify in that time window. While you’re inside the three-year window, you can recertify by passing the current CCT Data Center exam. Also, if you pass a different Cisco Career Certification exam in the three-year window, you’ll recertify your CCT Data Center and earn the new cert as well.
