Note: This post is the ninth in a series reviewing the updates in each of the 10 Knowledge Areas (KA) in the new "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge," (PMBOK® Guide) Fifth Edition. If you want the big picture of what's changed in the 5th Edition, check out this earlier post.

So, what's different in Procurement Management? Two processes have been renamed. Plan Procurements was renamed Plan Procurement Management and Administer Procurements was renamed Control Procurements. Both changes were made for naming consistency purposes, more so than changing the intent of the processes.

And other than some minor wording changes and refinements of the inputs, outputs, tools and techniques, very little else has changed in Procurement Management in this edition.

Bottom line, you really can say there were no changes in Procurement Management. As a result, adapting to the 5th edition is virtually automatic.
