Do I need to pass another Splunk exam before attempting this one?

No. There are no prerequisite exams for the Splunk Core Certified Power User certification. That said, taking a structured course like this one, or a foundational Splunk course like Splunk Certified Core User, will be extremely beneficial. Real-world experience with Splunk search, knowledge objects, and SPL will make the 65-question exam significantly more manageable.

How hard is the Splunk Core Certified Power User exam compared to the Core Certified User cert?

The Power User exam goes well beyond basic search. It tests practical knowledge of macros, workflow actions, data models, field extractions, and the CIM add-on, none of which appear on the Core Certified User exam. If you passed the Core User cert a while ago and haven't touched those features since, plan to spend real time reviewing them before you test.

Is this certification worth it if I already use Splunk at work?

For SOC analysts and SIEM administrators, the Power User cert validates skills you probably use regularly but may not have formally documented. It also puts a recognized credential on your resume that hiring managers can evaluate without guessing at your actual Splunk depth. If your team runs Splunk and you want to move into a more senior or specialized role, it's a practical credential to have.

What does the exam format actually look like?

The exam has 65 questions and runs 60 minutes total, including 3 minutes to review the exam agreement, so you have about 57 minutes of actual testing time. Questions are weighted across ten domains, with Correlating Events carrying the most weight at 15 percent. The remaining domains are each worth 5 to 10 percent. Splunk does not publish a pass score publicly, so check current Splunk documentation for the most accurate passing threshold before you register.

Where does this certification fit if I want to move into Splunk administration or architecture?

The Power User cert sits between the entry-level Core Certified User and the more advanced Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin and Architect paths. Earning it demonstrates that you can build knowledge objects, manage field extractions, and work with data models, which are skills that overlap with what admins and architects do. It's a logical step if you're working toward those roles or want to take on more responsibility with your current Splunk deployment.
