Is the Fortinet Certified Professional Network Security certification worth it?

Whether or not a certification is worth it for your career depends on a lot of different things, but for experienced network security professionals who work with Fortinet technologies, the Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) in Network Security is a worthwhile use of time and money. If you work with Fortinet, earning the FCP doesn't just demonstrate your commitment to excellence, it also represents a high level of comfort in securing networks and applications with Fortinet's security products.

How much does the NSE 6 - FortiAuthenticator certification exam cost?

The NSE 6 - FortiAuthenticator exam costs $200 to attempt. However, it is not the only certification you need to pass in order to earn the Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) in Network Security – it's merely one of its eight elective exams. To earn the certification, you need to pass the core exam (NSE 4 FortiOS) as well as one elective exam, and since both cost $200, the total cost of the FCP in Network Security is $400.

Does the FCP in Network Security expire?

Yes, as of October 1, 2023, all of Fortinet's certifications have an expiration date – which was not always the case prior to their reorganization of their certification collection. Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) in Network Security expires two years after it's earned. You can renew your FCP in Network Security before it expires in a few ways: by passing the core and elective exam again; by earning the specialist-level FCSS in Network Security; or by earning the expert-level FCX cert.

How difficult is the NSE 6 - FortiAuthenticator certification exam?

Everyone experiences tests differently, so it's hard to say whether or not one exam is particularly difficult. That said, the NSE 6 - FortiAuthenticator exam is a professional-level test of network security configuration and management that's meant to represent several year's worth of experience. So if you're already comfortable with configuring and monitoring FortiGate devices, and if you use and tweak FortiAuthenticator in your day-to-day job, you'll likely find that the NSE 6 exam is tough but fair.
