For IT leaders
What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course
For IT leaders: As FortiGate fleets grow past a handful of devices, box-by-box administration turns into configuration drift, inconsistent policy, and outage risk. This course trains your team to run Fortinet at enterprise scale. Learners centralize device and policy configuration in FortiManager, build HA pairs for critical segments, deploy OSPF, BGP, IPsec, and ADVPN, and use templates and variables to support consistent onboarding for new firewalls.
Role fit: Assign this to firewall administrators, network security engineers, and Team Leads who already manage FortiGates. It is advanced material. Practitioners new to FortiOS should start with Fortinet NSE 4 - FortiOS 7.6 Administrator.
Time investment: Plan for about 14 hours per learner across 13 skills. Each skill builds on a shared lab environment, so learners should complete the skills in order.
Risk and change management: The instructor treats FortiManager pushes as controlled change. He recommends making one change at a time, confirming device configs and policy packages are current before a push, and using provisioning templates so the same settings carry over to new firewalls. Customer scenarios and validation activities test design judgment, not just recall.
How CBT Nuggets supports the outcome: The course aligns to Fortinet's FCSS expectations. The opening skill shows how to build a practice lab with VDOMs, so teams can rehearse the full topology on as few as three firewalls. Team Leads can use Playlists to sequence this course after foundational Fortinet training.
