For IT leaders
What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course
Teams running Aruba switching across campuses, branches, or data centers often rely on one or two people who understand OSPF, BGP, and Layer 2 design well. When those people are unavailable, outages last longer and contractor costs rise. This course spreads that knowledge across the team.
Role fit: This course suits IT Practitioners and Team Leads with at least two years of networking experience. Staff who are new to Aruba should start with the HPE Aruba Networking Certified Associate (HPE6-A86) course.
Time investment: Plan for about 26 hours per learner across 30 skills of roughly 50 minutes each. That works out to 6–8 weeks at a few hours per week.
Risk and security relevance: The course covers ACLs, 802.1X, secure network access, and STP protections against rogue switches that try to take over the topology. These topics support access-control and segmentation reviews.
Change-management notes:
- Demos use a virtualized lab. The instructor notes that some data-plane behavior, such as private VLANs, may not work in emulation even though the commands are correct. Validate those changes on real hardware before production rollout.
- The REST API and NAE skills introduce automation and monitoring. Coordinate with change-control owners before agents or scripts touch live switches.
How CBT Nuggets supports it: Each skill ends with a validation challenge, such as troubleshooting OSPF configuration issues or identifying the right Aruba product for identity-based policy enforcement. Use Playlists to sequence routing, security, and automation tracks by role, and Team Reporting to track progress toward HPE Aruba Networking Certified Professional - Switching (HPE7-A08).
