What is Big Data?
Big data is a term that relates to the vast amount of data that an organization must process during the course of its operations. This processing typically includes analysis that can help organizations make better decisions.
Big data revolves around three interrelated concepts: volume, velocity and variety. Volume refers to the amount of data that an organization must store. An organization must figure out how to collect and organize this volume. Velocity refers to the speed in which an organization must process data. Organizations must be able to handle data in a timely manner, often in real time. Finally, variety refers to the different kinds of data that an organization must process. Data comes in many different formats, both structured and unstructured, and an organization must be able to recognize these and process them accordingly.
By properly processing big data, you can reduce both costs and the time required to get things done.
