For IT leaders
What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course
Many IT teams run ServiceNow but still depend on contractors or a single in-house expert for custom development. That creates a bottleneck, and it adds risk when scripts, automations, and access rules are built without consistent standards.
Who to assign: This intermediate course fits ServiceNow admins ready to move into JavaScript development, as well as junior and experienced developers new to the platform. It starts with JavaScript fundamentals, so IT Practitioners without a coding background can build the scripting foundation ServiceNow development requires.
Time investment: Plan for about 47 hours per learner across 59 skills of roughly 45–50 minutes each. Most teams spread this over several weeks.
Risk and governance: The course covers scoped applications, access control lists (ACLs), and automated testing. It also teaches a practical habit: test in short feedback loops instead of stacking untested changes. Together, these help your team build apps that are easier to audit and maintain.
Change-management note: Learners work in ServiceNow Studio to create and organize application components, including tables, ACLs, UI policies, and business rules. Give them a non-production instance to work in.
Challenge-and-solution videos in each skill reinforce hands-on practice, and Team Reporting lets Training Managers track progress toward the Certified Application Developer (CAD) certification.
