Cisco Wireless Certification Changes: WLCOR Replaces ENCOR

Cisco will use a different core exam for the updated CCIE Wireless certification path. If this is a learning path you’ve been eyeing, you will now need to prepare for the Implementing and Operating Cisco Wireless Core Technologies v1.0 (WLCOR 350-101) exam, instead of the ENCOR exam. The change will take effect beginning March 19, 2026.
Changes for Cisco this March 2026
Before the update, the Enterprise Network Core Technologies exam (ENCOR 350-401) was the core exam for wireless certification. Cisco ENCOR had a wide scope, with wireless topics only part of the exam. With the March update, Cisco is separating the wireless route from the Enterprise certification track.
While Cisco has made WLCOR the core exam for wireless, ENCOR is still the exam to take for the CCNP Enterprise certification. Wireless will follow a different route built around WLCOR.
Why Cisco Created a Dedicated Wireless Track
ENCOR covers diverse topics in enterprise networking, including routing, network architecture, automation, and virtualization. Wireless networking is only a small part of the coverage. As enterprise networks become increasingly complex, this domain has come to need its own certification.
Large organizations depend on wireless connectivity for offices, campuses, and hybrid environments. For a network engineer, you need specific knowledge to manage these systems. Cisco created WLCOR to specifically certify those skills.
WLCOR vs. ENCOR: What’s the Difference?
The WLCOR vs. ENCOR comparison centers on exam focus and certification tracks. As mentioned, both exams serve as core exams for different career paths.
WLCOR is a new, specialized core exam replacing the wireless topics previously found in ENCOR. While ENCOR covers broad enterprise networking (routing, switching, security, automation), WLCOR focuses exclusively on advanced wireless technologies.
WLCOR focuses on enterprise wireless networking. The exam tests wireless controller architecture, enterprise wireless deployment models, RF behavior, mobility services, and wireless troubleshooting.
Separating WLCOR and ENCOR allows Cisco to test enterprise networking and wireless engineering as distinct specialties.
What This Means for CCNP and CCIE Candidates
If you’re preparing for Cisco Wireless certifications, you need to check the updated exam topics and requirements. You’ll need to prepare for WLCOR if your main learning path is wireless networking.
If you’re still keen on obtaining the ELCOR certification, note that wireless is no longer part of the domains covered. That exam remains essential to the CCNP Enterprise certification route.
How This Affects Enterprise Certification Planning
Enterprise networking paths will still take Cisco ENCOR, while wireless-focused careers now rely on WLCOR. How this affects your overall planning will depend on the domain you want to specialize in.
