00:00:18 - The first thing we're going to
tackle is, what is Salesforce?
00:00:22 - And we'll talk about just the
nature of being an online or a
00:00:25 - web based or cloud based
00:00:28 - does not use software.
00:00:29 - And then we'll talk a little bit
about the business purpose
00:00:32 - of it, what customer
relationship management is and
00:00:34 - sales force automation and
00:00:37 - And then we'll go right into the
app itself and review the
00:00:40 - homepage, the basic overview
and layout there.
00:00:43 - And then we'll go into a little
bit of the details in
00:00:47 - terms of how to get to the
personal setup and settings in
00:00:51 - the app settings.
00:00:53 - And I'll just show you a few
fundamental things like
00:00:56 - changing passwords
and changing the
00:00:58 - layout of the display.
00:00:59 - You can customize what tabs you
view and what order those
00:01:03 - tabs are in.
00:01:04 - How to use quick find/search.
00:01:07 - And that is specifically
designed for all of the
00:01:10 - different tabs and
00:01:13 - And there are just so many
different settings in the
00:01:16 - application, you're going to
want to use quick find and
00:01:18 - search to find all the different
adjustments that you
00:01:21 - can make to the overall
00:01:23 - We'll look at the different
homepage components that are
00:01:26 - available and a few of the
different page layouts, the
00:01:30 - whole goal being just to get
familiar with Salesforce.
00:01:33 - And then in the rest of the
video series, we'll go deeper
00:01:35 - into each subject.
00:01:38 - So what is Salesforce?
00:01:40 - And what do they mean when
they use terms like "it's
00:01:43 - online," "it's web based," "it's
in the cloud," "we're
00:01:46 - not using software?"
00:01:48 - Well, if you think about the
cloud like this, this is the
00:01:52 - internet, the World Wide Web.
00:01:54 - And all the people and the
applications and computers
00:01:58 - that are out here in
the networked world
00:02:01 - reside in the cloud.
00:02:03 - And then there's you.
00:02:05 - And you want to get
some work done.
00:02:08 - So, to get work done, you have
a computer of some sort.
00:02:13 - And maybe it's a laptop,
maybe it's a tablet,
00:02:15 - maybe it's a phone.
00:02:17 - And normally, what people have
done up until recent years is
00:02:20 - they buy some software, and they
load it on the computer.
00:02:24 - And then, they use that computer
and that software to
00:02:26 - get their work done.
00:02:28 - And then they send information
from that computer into the
00:02:32 - cloud via email or whatever
it may be or the
00:02:35 - internet or the web.
00:02:36 - And then they get information
00:02:39 - But nowadays, using technology
like Salesforce and all the
00:02:43 - social capabilities, instead of
taking an application and
00:02:47 - loading it on your computer, you
just connect the computer
00:02:50 - and you go right into the web.
00:02:52 - And you get apps and you get
storage and you get all kinds
00:02:56 - of computing resources
in the web.
00:03:00 - And then you take that
information and you
00:03:02 - get your work done.
00:03:03 - So, you're using the same tool,
but you're using the web
00:03:06 - getting the work done instead
of using a piece of software
00:03:09 - to get the work done.
00:03:11 - So, we don't use the software.
00:03:12 - We connect into the cloud.
00:03:13 - And the beautiful thing about
this is all of your friends
00:03:16 - and your co-workers and your
customers and your partners
00:03:20 - and everybody else is already
connected to the cloud, so you
00:03:23 - can very quickly connect and
collaborate with those people
00:03:26 - while you're getting
your work done.
00:03:28 - So, that's what we're talking
about with Salesforce being
00:03:30 - web based and cloud based
and no software based.
00:03:33 - We're not loading apps and
using apps no more.
00:03:36 - We're just going to the cloud.
00:03:38 - We're connecting with people.
00:03:39 - We're connecting with
00:03:41 - We're connecting with storage
and disk drives and all kinds
00:03:44 - of computing power.
00:03:45 - And we're using all of it
to get our work done.
00:03:48 - So, that summarizes Salesforce
00:03:52 - fundamentally, at a very
00:03:54 - But the question is, what is
Salesforce from a business
00:03:58 - perspective?
00:03:59 - What does it actually
do for a business?
00:04:01 - And so for that, we need
to look at CRM.
00:04:05 - And CRM stands for Customer
00:04:10 - And this is a technology that
allows businesses to interact
00:04:14 - with their customers, both
present and future customers,
00:04:17 - and manage those relationships
and capture all the
00:04:20 - information.
00:04:21 - Well, Salesforce Automation is
kind of a subset of CRM.
00:04:27 - And that's where the Salesforce
00:04:29 - technology falls into.
00:04:30 - It's a sales force automation
type of technology that falls
00:04:34 - within CRM.
00:04:35 - And the core capability of
Salesforce is the contact
00:04:40 - management capability.
00:04:41 - But what's important to
understand is it's so much
00:04:44 - more than just managing names,
addresses, and phone numbers,
00:04:48 - and the last time you called
them and what you talked about
00:04:51 - and where you are in
the sales process.
00:04:53 - The real power behind Salesforce
is all of the data
00:04:57 - and all the analytics you can
then pull from this system to
00:05:00 - make business decisions.
00:05:02 - So, business leaders can make
decisions on where they're
00:05:05 - going to invest their
money and costs.
00:05:06 - And marketing to make decisions
about campaigns that
00:05:09 - are effective and that
00:05:11 - Sales people can communicate
where they are in the sales
00:05:14 - process and what resources they
need and collaborate with
00:05:17 - those resources.
00:05:18 - So, there's a whole bunch of
business value built in to
00:05:22 - this technology.
00:05:25 - So, let's go ahead and take
a look at salesforce.com.
00:05:28 - And keep in mind here
that you're looking
00:05:30 - at a web page here.
00:05:31 - This is not a piece of software
on my computer.
00:05:35 - But this is the Salesforce
00:05:37 - And so this is the home page for
my particular instances.
00:05:42 - This is a training
00:05:43 - And I'm just going to give you
a tour of this page and show
00:05:47 - you the "what."
00:05:48 - This whole video today is really
about the "what." What
00:05:52 - is Salesforce?
00:05:53 - What can it do?
00:05:54 - What kind of information
can you put in here?
00:05:57 - And what can you
get out of it?
00:05:59 - And then the rest of the video
series is going to be the
00:06:01 - "hows" and the "wheres"
and the "whys"
00:06:04 - of how it all works.
00:06:05 - So, today is a bit of a tour
so you understand all the
00:06:08 - different things you can access
here within Salesforce.
00:06:11 - And what's going with
this dropdown here?
00:06:14 - And how do you do all
the setup stuff?
00:06:15 - And what about this little
sidebar over here?
00:06:18 - What information is there?
00:06:19 - You need to know your way
around, and that's what we're
00:06:21 - going to do here.
00:06:22 - So, I think a great place to
start is right up here.
00:06:25 - There's a very important
dropdown right there that we
00:06:28 - need to be aware of.
00:06:29 - And we're going to take a look
at that and see what it does.
00:06:31 - When you come down here, there's
profile and setup and
00:06:34 - all these things.
00:06:35 - But the thing I want to look
at today is setup.
00:06:37 - When we click there, it opens up
a lot of options over here
00:06:42 - on the side.
00:06:44 - I want to scroll down a little
bit so you can see these.
00:06:46 - But there are three main
sections or areas within this
00:06:52 - sidebar that are important-- the
Personal Setup area, the
00:06:56 - App Setup area, and
00:06:58 - So, I really want to look at
the personal setup area--
00:07:03 - come up here--
00:07:04 - because one of the first things
you want to do is just
00:07:06 - come over here and make sure
your personal information is
00:07:09 - set up and accurate.
00:07:11 - It gives you a name, email
address, and your username,
00:07:14 - and all that good information,
00:07:17 - your role is, et cetera.
00:07:19 - You're able to change your
password from this location if
00:07:22 - you want to do that, where
you click here.
00:07:24 - And this is a complete Change
My Password setup.
00:07:28 - So, you can come in here, type
in the old password, and
00:07:30 - change the new there.
00:07:33 - I think one of the more
important links that you have
00:07:38 - here early, when you start
using Salesforce, is this
00:07:42 - Change My Display.
00:07:43 - This is really important
because you can
00:07:46 - customize the tabs.
00:07:47 - And when they say "customize the
tabs," what they mean are
00:07:51 - these tabs up here.
00:07:53 - You can decide what tabs you
want to have access to, what
00:07:56 - you want to be able to see.
00:07:57 - So, when you click on Customize
My Tabs, then over
00:08:01 - here, you're going to see what
you've already selected.
00:08:05 - So, these right here are
the exact same as
00:08:09 - these tabs along here.
00:08:11 - So, you can either come in
here and remove these--
00:08:15 - let's say you didn't
want Leads anymore.
00:08:16 - You would select it and come
over here and click Remove.
00:08:19 - And then, when you scroll down a
little bit, you'll see right
00:08:23 - here that you have
a Save button.
00:08:25 - So, when you click that Save
button, you'll now be able to
00:08:27 - come up and look and see that
Leads no longer shows up here.
00:08:31 - Oops.
00:08:31 - I just clicked that
tab by accident.
00:08:34 - Let's go backward.
00:08:35 - Let's just come over
here to, well--
00:08:38 - well, let's come over
here to Home.
00:08:40 - Let's click back on this
dropdown again, just so you
00:08:42 - can see it again.
00:08:43 - We'll click on Setup, and then
that gives you all these
00:08:46 - options over here.
00:08:47 - Click on My Personal
Information, and then we'll
00:08:50 - come down here to Change
00:08:53 - Let me go over here
to Customize Tabs.
00:08:56 - So, let's look at these
00:09:00 - We've got Home, Contacts,
00:09:03 - Reports, and Dashboards.
00:09:04 - So, if you wanted to add
Cases, for example, you
00:09:07 - would select it.
00:09:08 - Come over here and click Add.
00:09:10 - And now, you see Cases
on the list.
00:09:13 - And let's say you
00:09:16 - We'll go ahead and add that.
00:09:19 - And let's come down.
00:09:21 - Let's get Leads back.
00:09:22 - Select it, click on Add.
00:09:24 - Now, when we click on Save here,
all of these tabs should
00:09:28 - be up there along the top.
00:09:29 - So, we'll click Save.
00:09:32 - And now you'll see Cases,
Campaigns, Leads, et cetera.
00:09:35 - So, that's what you can do from
this Change My Display
00:09:40 - link over here.
00:09:42 - So, as a reminder, it's dropdown
here, Setup, come
00:09:47 - over here to My Personal
Information, and then Change
00:09:51 - My Display, and then
00:09:55 - And then you have your
00:09:57 - And the tabs that you see here
are going to be the same tabs
00:10:02 - as you see up here.
00:10:04 - Now, the other thing that's
interesting is this plus sign
00:10:06 - right here.
00:10:07 - If you click on the plus sign,
it's going to give you all of
00:10:10 - the tab options available
00:10:13 - And so, you could just click on
a tab here, and you could
00:10:16 - get to that tab.
00:10:19 - So, if the tab is not up here--
if you didn't select it
00:10:22 - in your screen view, and
it doesn't exist here--
00:10:25 - every time you hit the plus
sign, you're going to find all
00:10:27 - the tabs available to you.
00:10:29 - And then you'll be able
to go to that
00:10:31 - particular tab that way.
00:10:33 - And you can see it's
still a tab here.
00:10:36 - So, two options to get there--
00:10:38 - down in the sidebar and then up
on the tab line there, you
00:10:42 - have that particular
00:10:44 - So, the last thing I want to
show you about tabs is how to
00:10:48 - arrange them.
00:10:49 - And that's done here with
these two arrows.
00:10:53 - So, you can see the order these
tabs are laid out in.
00:10:58 - But if you thought you wanted
to move Leads up front here,
00:11:03 - maybe over underneath the Home
tab there-- or, right beside
00:11:07 - the Home tab, then what you're
going to want to do is select
00:11:10 - Leads and then tap
on this up arrow.
00:11:13 - Move it to right underneath
00:11:16 - And I'll scroll down
here a bit.
00:11:19 - Click on Save.
00:11:21 - And now, you see that Leads was
moved from over there all
00:11:25 - the way over to here.
00:11:28 - So, you'll use those arrows
to get that done.
00:11:33 - OK.
00:11:33 - So, there's another thing I want
to make sure you're aware
00:11:35 - of when it comes to this
personal setup issue.
00:11:38 - So, we come back up here
to this dropdown,
00:11:42 - and we'll go to Setup.
00:11:44 - Now, what we haven't talked
about yet is this whole area
00:11:49 - here, which is really big
because the quick find--
00:11:54 - let's just take a look at how
many options you have here.
00:11:59 - If you look down this
sidebar here, I'm
00:12:02 - going to scroll down.
00:12:04 - And there are dozens
00:12:07 - Every single one of these line
items, every one is a hotlink
00:12:13 - to another setting or
customization you can put into
00:12:18 - Salesforce.
00:12:19 - So, it's important to understand
that there are just
00:12:23 - dozens and dozens of ways
to customize and set up
00:12:26 - Salesforce.
00:12:27 - So, what I want you to
understand about that is if
00:12:29 - you click here, it's
Expand All, and
00:12:31 - you'll see all of those.
00:12:32 - If you click here, you'll
collapse all of these.
00:12:35 - And a quicker way to find
things is this box.
00:12:40 - Let's remember the My Personal
00:12:42 - If we wanted to change the
display and customize tabs, we
00:12:45 - would come here.
00:12:46 - But if there are dozens and
dozens of line items here, all
00:12:50 - you need to do is go into the
Quick Find box and start
00:12:53 - typing "display." And three
letters, D-I-S, and the only
00:12:57 - option left is Change
00:13:00 - So it's a very powerful browse
and search capability.
00:13:04 - Click on Change My Display.
00:13:05 - You can come over here.
00:13:06 - And now we can customize tabs.
00:13:07 - So, be aware of the power of
this Quick Find box and then
00:13:13 - expanding and collapsing
00:13:15 - over here in the sidebar.
00:13:17 - And speaking of sidebars,
we now have this
00:13:20 - sidebar right here.
00:13:21 - This is known as the Left Narrow
Column of Salesforce.
00:13:27 - And then over here, this is
the Right Wide Column.
00:13:31 - And you'll see that in the
customizations that we can do.
00:13:35 - But if you click on
this little arrow
00:13:36 - right here, it closes.
00:13:38 - So, these are collapsible.
00:13:40 - This left narrow column can be
opened and then closed there.
00:13:44 - And then, the contents of this
column are customizable.
00:13:48 - These, for example, are
customized links created
00:13:51 - within the Nuggets training
00:13:54 - This one, Create New, is a
standard offering within this
00:13:58 - sidebar from Salesforce.
00:14:01 - And we'll scroll on down, and
you'll see a couple of others.
00:14:05 - Recent Items, that's a pretty
00:14:07 - So, we'll take a look at how
to customize this sidebar.
00:14:12 - And again, you come back over to
the dropdown here, go into
00:14:15 - the setup, and then you're
back in your
00:14:18 - sidebar over here.
00:14:20 - Now, we're coming down
to App Setup.
00:14:21 - We're going to click
00:14:23 - And when you click on Customize,
you want to go to
00:14:26 - the home page, this Home
tab right here.
00:14:29 - Now, you're in this home page,
home tab customization area.
00:14:33 - And this is where you can begin
to really lay out and
00:14:35 - set up what's on
the home page.
00:14:37 - Home Page Components.
00:14:38 - And then you come over here, and
you're going to see that
00:14:41 - you have some standard
components there and some
00:14:44 - custom components.
00:14:45 - And in these standard
components, you'll see what we
00:14:48 - just looked at, Create New.
00:14:50 - And over here, you're going
to see that's in
00:14:51 - the left narrow column.
00:14:54 - So, let's go back up.
00:14:56 - Let's click on the Home page.
00:14:59 - And we'll see this
00:15:01 - There's that Create New that we
were just looking at there
00:15:04 - in the customize sheet.
00:15:05 - And here it is in the left
narrow column there.
00:15:10 - Let's go back into Setup.
00:15:13 - Come back down to App Setup
00:15:19 - We'll click on Home there, and
then come back into these home
00:15:23 - page components.
00:15:25 - Let's take a little deeper
look at that.

just a little bit.
00:15:29 - But in these standard components
here, Create New,
00:15:33 - Recent Items, you could have
tags show up over there once
00:15:37 - you start doing tags.
00:15:40 - Now, Calendar, notice that the
calendar and the tasks are in
00:15:43 - the right wide section.
00:15:47 - So, you'll see it's
listed down here.
00:15:50 - When you go back into the home
page and you scroll down,
00:15:55 - that's where you're going to
find your tasks and your
00:15:58 - calendar, in this section
00:16:03 - So, keep in mind this is
a whole video series.
00:16:06 - And we're going to do--
00:16:07 - I know I'm going to do at least
one full video on all
00:16:11 - these setup options for the
app and personal setup.
00:16:14 - So, all these customizations and
settings, we're going to
00:16:20 - go deeper into that.
00:16:21 - But for today, I just wanted you
to know where these were
00:16:25 - and what they can do.
00:16:28 - And the same thing goes for
these tabs across the top of
00:16:33 - the page here.
00:16:33 - We're going to look at these
in much greater detail in
00:16:36 - future videos.
00:16:37 - The key thing is just that you
know that these tabs are here
00:16:41 - and this is where you go to
access this information.
00:16:45 - And then, if the tab is not up
here that you're looking for,
00:16:49 - you can come to this plus sign
and find additional tabs
00:16:52 - listed down here.
00:16:54 - And so, we'll have a different
video on a number of these
00:16:58 - tabs, one video designated
to each tab, but not
00:17:03 - all of those tabs.
00:17:04 - But what's important is that you
understand that each tab
00:17:07 - represents a different page.
00:17:08 - And then when you go into
that page-- let's say
00:17:11 - the Contacts page--
00:17:13 - the first thing you get is
an overview on this page.
00:17:17 - And you get these
00:17:20 - So, you'll have a Recent
Contacts pane, the most recent
00:17:23 - contacts that you've accessed,
reports that you can run,
00:17:27 - tools that you can use
to manage contacts.
00:17:29 - But if you actually want the
contacts list, then you come
00:17:33 - up to this View section here.
00:17:37 - And what you have to do is
select a view that you want to
00:17:42 - view, or create a new view.
00:17:45 - And then you would click Go.
00:17:48 - And then you get the actual
list of contacts here.
00:17:52 - So, you have to go up here to
the View, click on that Go,
00:17:56 - and then you get the
00:17:57 - Any time you go to a brand new
page-- let's go to the
00:17:59 - Accounts page here.
00:18:02 - And what you have is
this overview and
00:18:06 - same kind of a deal.
00:18:07 - You have Recent Accounts
and Reports and Tools.
00:18:11 - But if you want to actually view
the accounts, you select
00:18:16 - the view that you want there.
00:18:18 - We'll select All Accounts, and
then I'll come over here and
00:18:20 - I'll click Go.
00:18:22 - And then you'll get your
00:18:24 - So, we're going to build this
database as we go through the
00:18:27 - video series.
00:18:28 - So, we don't have a lot
of accounts and
00:18:29 - contacts in here yet.
00:18:30 - But as we go through the videos,
we're going to create
00:18:33 - contacts and create accounts.
00:18:34 - And we're going to create
00:18:37 - And so, then you'll get a nice,
well, not a super long
00:18:41 - list, but we'll get a longer
list of opportunities that we
00:18:44 - can then manage.
00:18:46 - So, same with reports
and everything else.
00:18:48 - So, stay tuned for that.
00:18:50 - But the point of this video is
just to let you know where
00:18:54 - everything was on the page.
00:18:56 - And we'll be doing many
videos on a number of
00:19:00 - these different pages.
00:19:02 - And so, that's about all we're
going to get to for this

00:19:06 - We covered what is Salesforce
and the online nature of it,
00:19:10 - the web based cloud, overall
architecture of this very
00:19:16 - valuable tool, looked a little
bit at the business value of
00:19:19 - customer relationship management
00:19:22 - automation.
00:19:23 - Then, we got into the overview
of the basic home page layout
00:19:26 - and looked at some of the
settings, like the personal
00:19:28 - setup settings and app
settings and changing
00:19:30 - passwords and changing your
display, customizing tabs,
00:19:34 - that kind of thing, how to
search within all of those
00:19:37 - settings using quick find.
00:19:40 - I talked a little bit about
home page components and
00:19:42 - different page layouts.
00:19:43 - We're going to go into much more
detail in future videos
00:19:45 - here on lot of these subjects.
00:19:48 - But today was just to give
you some introduction.
00:19:50 - And hopefully that's what we
got accomplished here.
