CBT Nuggets Story

Dan Charbonneau was an in-demand Microsoft trainer in 1999, one who truly understood the limitations of existing training techniques. He decided it was time to give IT pros and aspiring IT pros the training they needed, when they needed it and at a price they could afford.

According to Dan, "It's hard to give students the consistent, high-quality training they deserve in classroom settings. There are just too many hard-to-control variables." In order for training to be as effective as possible, IT folks need learning resources that exactly fit their schedules and budgets.

That's why Dan began recording lessons on video in 1999. His resulting business, CBT Nuggets, has been giving IT professionals high-quality, affordable training ever since.

("CBT" stands for computer-based training, and "Nuggets" refers to the valuable nuggets of information available on every video.)

At first, CBT Nuggets video instruction was entirely Dan working alone in a basement studio. He was the Nuggets' trainer, technical staff and business manager. After recording a new video series, he burned CDs and mailed them to customers -- many of them his former classroom students.

For its first couple of years CBT Nuggets training remained Microsoft oriented -- Dan's specialty. But by 2001, Dan decided this wasn't broad enough and began hiring other high-end trainers with different IT specialties.

All CBT Nuggets instructors are fascinating personalities with expert-level skills and industry-wide respect. Dan said, "I know what good training sounds like. I know what keeps listeners in their seats. I refuse to accept anything less." Watch a free CBT Nugget video, and discover what Dan is talking about.

Today the CBT Nuggets video catalog covers every major IT category. We still burn CDs, but now we stream most of our videos directly to thousands of customers -- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What hasn't changed is Dan's commitment to excellence. Every CBT Nugget video is efficient, informative, comprehensive, technically accurate, convenient and fun to watch.
