Microsoft Excel 2019 FAQs: Cost, Training, Value

Have Microsoft Excel 2019 and Office 2019 been discontinued?

As of October 10, 2023, Office 2019 will no longer be receiving mainstream support from Microsoft. But Office 2019 and all its internal tools (like Excel 2019) will receive extended support until at least October 14, 2025. Just because Microsoft is no longer offering support to these versions of Office and Excel doesn't mean that they're entirely discontinued. These versions will continue to function, they just won't receive feature updates.

Who should take this course on using Excel 2019?

Anyone who's even touched a spreadsheet in the last six months should take this Excel course – especially if your company uses the Office 2019 version of the productivity software (but a lot of what you'll learn on this course applies to the cloud version and earlier versions). Spreadsheets are powerful tools, and many organizations rely on them for everything from scheduling to payroll – mastering them is a powerful career move.

Can't I learn to use Excel 2019 on my own?

You can learn to use Excel on your own – there are blogs, YouTube videos and Microsoft documentation. The problem with learning Excel like that is how slow and random it all is. This course provides a clear roadmap for navigating your way all the way through Excel – from the basics of spreadsheet design to advanced configurations and settings. The structured approach is far preferable compared to random internet resources.

Do I need to understand a lot of math or coding to learn to use Excel?

No, you don't need to know math and coding to learn Excel. In fact, when you get a solid grip on Excel, you'll find that it can do tons and tons of math for you, and its built-in functions act a lot like advanced coding languages, which you don't have to learn to do on your own. Learning Excel is as easy as mastering its basic functions and shortcuts.

Is this Excel 2019 course associated with any certifications?

No, this Excel 2019 course wasn't designed with any certifications in mind. You'll have opportunities to practice what you're learning, so you'll be prepared for hands-on certifications related to spreadsheets and Office productivity tools, but this is primarily a professional skills course. There is a Microsoft certification called Microsoft Office Specialist: Expert (Office 2019), but that's for end users with a strong grasp of all the productivity tools in Office 2019.
