12 Best Gifts for IT Pros

Finding the perfect gift for an IT pro can prove to be challenging and expensive if you’re not savvy about shopping.  So, we thought we’d help out by giving you a list of excellent gifts that any IT pro will love!

We put together a list that provides a mix of practical and fun gifts. We’ll leave it to your best judgment to choose just the right thing for the IT pro on your holiday shopping list.

Stocking Stuffers (Under $20)

1. Cable organizers (practical) – IT pros are always battling a twisted, roiling, tangled nest of cables, so why not help out with a few organizational items to bring cable sanity back?

There are lots of options, but we’re particular fans of Nite Ize Original Gear Ties, Vintar Cable Management Sleeves, or even just a handful of Avantree Cable Clips to put cable management back in the hands of end users.

Or, you can go with the classic zip ties or velcro cable ties.

2. Faraday Cage (practical and fun) – Wait, what? How can that be a stocking stuffer? It’s easy enough with the Faraday Defense EMP Signal Blocker Case for wallets, key fobs, cell phones, and more. The best part of this gift is that your favorite IT pro will be able to say, “Yeah, I have a Faraday cage.”

3. Microbit set and screwdrivers (practical) – No IT pro can survive without a microbit set! There are lots to choose from, but one of our very own IT pros recommends the Floureon 38-in-1 Precision Screwdriver Set. We didn’t argue.

4. Phantom Keystroker (fun) – For the IT pro with a devious sense of humor, the Phantom Keystroker will drive a user nuts as this innocent-looking USB device creates random mouse movements, turns the caps lock on and off, and generates garbage text.*

*Note: We recommend that you have a written agreement prepared for the IT pro recipient of this gift that will force them to promise not to use this gift against you!

Mid-size Gifts ($20-$75)

1. GRID-IT Organizer (practical) – A little too big to fit in a stocking, but still affordable enough to keep you under your gift-giving budget. The GRID-IT Organizer comes in a variety of sizes and will keep your IT pro smiling and (maybe) a touch more organized as they go about their day-to-day work!

2. 3D Printing Pen (fun) – There now are lots of 3D printing pens out there, with varying degrees of quality, meaning you can find one to fit your gift-giving budget. Consider the XYZprinting da Vinci 3D Pen for a nice mid-range pen, or treat your IT pro to a higher-end pen like the 3Doodler Create pen (this one technically should be in the Big Items section, but we kept it here to keep things interesting). Let the drawing begin!

3. Dongles (practical) – Any IT pro knows you can never have too many dongles. So, do a little sleuthing to find out if your favorite IT pro needs Mac, PC, or other branded dongles and create a fun variety pack! Dongles range in price, so putting together a collection of them will make this a mid-size gift, or even a big item. Your IT pro will thank you.

The Big Items ($75 and up)

1. Gunnar Computer Glasses (practical) – IT pros spend a serious chunk of their lives staring at computer screens, and we all know how straining that can be on our eyes! So, give the gift that protects eyes and just looks freakin’ cool.

2. Activity Tracker (practical) – IT pros are always on the move. So why not help them measure that movement? You can choose to keep your gift affordable with something like a fitbit flex 2 (for day-to-day activity tracking) or you can really splurge with the Garmin Forerunner (for serious workout enthusiasts). Whatever your gift-giving budget, there’s an activity tracker that can fit it!

3. hellosy® Star Wars Death Star Levitating Speaker (fun) – A genuinely squee-worthy gift for the IT pro/Star Wars fan in your life. This speaker is a bit pricey, but soooooo worth it! May the holiday force be with you. (Special thanks to Tom’s IT Pro for alerting us to this wicked awesome gift!)

4. Noise-cancelling headphones (practical and fun) – Sometimes, all an IT pro wants is to get away from it all, which is particularly challenging at work! But here’s a good first step: Stop listening to the madness! A great pair of noise-cancelling headphones are an excellent gift for anyone, but especially for IT pros.

5. tinyTesla Musical Tesla Coil Kit (fun and a little dangerous) – Admit it. Ever since the first time you heard about the Tesla coil, you’ve wanted to see one in action and maybe even have one of your own, right? Us too.

Here’s your chance to build one for yourself- er, we mean, to give to the IT pro on your shopping list. The tinyTesla Musical Tesla Coil Kit gives you the chance to build your very own Tesla coil, complete with its own soundtrack.

6. CBT Nuggets (practical and fun) – Every IT pro has to stay in the know, meaning they have to be intentional about constantly learning and training. So, what better gift can you possibly give than the gift of training?

Give your favorite IT pro a CBT Nuggets subscription and watch them grow!
