CPD200: Developing Solutions for Google Cloud Platform is a developer-focused look at Google’s expansive cloud platform suite of tools and technologies. This course covers the deployment of enterprise-class, highly-scalable applications on GCP. The focus is on Google’s App Engine product, a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) inside of GCP, but also touches on Google Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Datastore, Cloud Shell, and Source Repository.
We asked Ben about his new course.
Q: Why should companies train their IT professionals in Google Cloud Platform? What value does it bring? There is no better time than now to start taking advantage of Google Cloud Platform for your implementations. The technology is robust, mature, secure, fast, and reliable. Cost savings and development efficiencies can be realized right away, and you can future-proof your organization at the same time.
Q: From a learner perspective, what did you keep in mind when creating this course? That the cloud is a large, complex suite of technologies, products, and features. Even experienced developers will find something new or different about Google Cloud Platform, and that can make it both exciting and daunting. Learners should feel comfortable approaching this course regardless of their level or knowledge or comfort with GCP.
Q: Any out-of-the-box tips for learners to get the most out of your course?
Practice, practice, practice! Take what you’ve learned and play with it in your own Cloud environment. Google makes it easy to start up and fool around with their service without running up a huge bill — or any bill at all in many cases!
Q: What’s one real-world application someone can expect to use, thanks to this course?
The fast development of prototype web applications. Google App Engine is an ideal place to try out new ideas and techniques and see if they will work for your IT implementations.
Q: What was your favorite Nugget to create?
I really enjoy the interaction with Google Datastore. It’s such a powerful database technology and Google makes it so easy to use with App Engine.
Q: What’s the one thing you hope learners take away from this training?
Just how fast and easy they can get started using Google Cloud Platform. As big and powerful as the technology is, the ramp-up process is smooth and easy.
