Chris Ward’s latest course, “ITIL® Foundations” is now completed! The 33-video, entry-level course covers the ITIL® methodology and standards for proving IT services that fulfill businesses’ and customers’ needs. Chris, who is ITIL®-certified, covers a wide range of topics related to this framework, including service lifecycle, service design, service operations, and more. This course also prepares learners for the ITIL® Foundations certification exam.
Here are Chris’ thoughts about his new course — and how you can get the most out of his training!
Q: Why should companies train their IT professionals in this framework? What value does it bring?
Companies that offer services in the IT industry are always looking for ways to enhance those offerings without compromising quality or decreasing efficiency of their business practices. ITIL® helps enable IT professionals and managers to maintain service level agreements (SLAs), while preparing and strategizing new products and services. Knowing the ITIL® lifecycle and capability models will increase your skill set as an IT professional. Companies are always looking for better ways to improve their offerings, and this framework will help them.
Q: From a student-perspective, what did you keep in mind when creating this course?
This course is the entry level into the world of ITIL®. As such, this course is a high-level overview and doesn’t dive too deeply into any one area. The goal is to help learners pass the ITIL® Foundations exam — and then begin to build on that foundation in the intermediate-level courses.
Q: Any outside-of-the-box tips for students to get the most out of your course?
Nothing too out of the box, but just straight forward advice. Take notes, learn terminology, and remember it’s high level. Don’t be surprised at how we just skim the surface on topics. Some of the parts are straight from the library, others are just common sense methods you need to be aware of.
Q: What’s one real-world application someone can expect to use, thanks to ITIL®
I believe most learners will gain some insight on using configuration management systems and some of the tools inherent in the ITIL® framework.
Q: What was your favorite Nugget to create?
I had a blast going through Service Operations – Service Desk Operations.
Q: What roadblocks did you come across when creating this training and how did you overcome them?
The biggest issue to overcome was how to make a very dry overview into something engaging. I decided to use CBT Nuggets trainers, James Conrad and Jeremy Cioara, as examples in the whole course. They are a lot of fun!
Q: What’s the ONE thing you hope learners take away from this training?
ITIL® is an amazing framework that helps you understand the A-Z, Soup-to-Nuts delivery of IT services to customers!
