Coach’s Playbook: Commitment

training-tip-of-the-week_EMAIL_purpleJust before the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S., we offered up a recipe for success and promised we’d dive into the leftovers.  So let’s dine on some commitment!

Success is made up of several ingredients, but the single most important part of your training success is commitment.

If you are committed to your training and achieving a successful outcome, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. But how can you improve your level of commitment?

  1. Go public with your training goals. If you share your goals with others, you are making a verbal commitment to achieving them. You might even consider inviting some of your friends or colleagues to check in with you about how your training is progressing from time-to-time.
  2. Put your training on your calendar. It’s such a simple, yet powerful step. Identify time when you can train, then commit to that time!
  3. Keep your purpose in mind. Never forget why you’re training. Maybe it’s for job security, personal development, or a better paycheck; whatever the reason, keep the purpose in mind to help you get through times when training gets tough.
  4. Reward yourself. Find a reward that is meaningful to you, and use that as motivation to complete your training. Maybe it’s a weekend away, or a fancy dinner, or even a new tech gadget you’ve been wanting; whatever it may be, use your reward to keep you going.
