Welcome to the August edition of the CBT Nuggets newsletter.
New Android app available
We’re very happy to introduce the new CBT Nuggets Android app, which has been designed based on feedback from our engaged customers. This new app requires an active streaming subscription from CBT Nuggets.
Here’s what you’ll find:
- Clean, intuitive design. Videos are easy to find and play.
- Fast video playback. Watch anytime, anywhere.
- Mobile-to-web bookmarks. Start a video on mobile, continue on the website right where you left off.
- Enhanced reporting system. All training minutes viewed in the app are reported to the account’s training administrator.
This app is a major improvement over the original version. Many of you have provided feedback to help make this new iteration a high-quality product, and we can’t thank you enough for that. If you had the original app, you’ll want to uninstall it and install the new one – it’s free!
Keep a lookout for our iPhone and iPad apps, coming soon!
New Microsoft Server 2012 First Look series – FREE!
Microsoft Server 2012 isn’t out yet, but you can get an early look at it in the new “Microsoft Server 2012: First Look” series.
The entire series is available on the CBT Nuggets YouTube channel for FREE, along with several Server 2012 MicroNuggets. Current customers can also stream the Server 2012 First Look series in the CBT Nuggets video player on our website.
Renowned trainer and MVP Don Jones takes you on a whirlwind tour of the changes and improvements in Windows Server 2012. Don will walk you through the new Server Manager, PowerShell 3, Windows Remote Management, Dynamic Access Control, IIS 8.0, and more. With Don’s expertise, you’ll soon feel Server 2012 is an old friend.
This series is just another of several we’re making on Microsoft’s new products. Also, the CBT Nuggets stable of expert Microsoft trainers—James Conrad, Timothy Warner, Greg Shields, and Jones—are currently creating training series for all of the new announced Microsoft exams.
New series releases
Summertime, and the living is easy… unless you’re a CBT Nuggets trainer! The trainers have been hard at work producing some fantastic new training series.
“PowerShell 3 Foundations” will help you master the foundations of PowerShell 3 with absolutely zero prior experience. Learn from the best: Microsoft MVP award recipient Don Jones, noted PowerShell trainer, author and speaker. Don combines carefully planned content with a friendly, approachable style to introduce you to the ins and outs of PowerShell. From the crucial help system, to the pipeline and including Remoting, this series is the perfect way to learn Microsoft’s new command-line and scripting technology.
“CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician” is a new training series for those who want to get started—or get ahead—in the rapidly growing healthcare IT field, you won’t want to miss this series. Learn about the intricacies of healthcare regulations, plus the unique organizational behavior, IT operations and security concerns of the healthcare world. This innovative series is led by trainer and security expert Michael Shannon, one of the first people in the country to earn HIPAA Security Specialist certification.
“CompTIA Network+ N10-005” is the perfect way to get started in computer networking or improve on those networking skills you already have. Plus, each Nugget maps to a specific objective of the N10-005 exam. Trainer Keith Barker is sure to keep you engaged while you learn how to maintain, secure, troubleshoot, install, control and configure basic network infrastructure. From the basics of how computer networks operate, the series builds upon that knowledge with real-world examples of network technologies and protocols, including the OSI model, TCP/IP, DNS, ARP, IP addressing (including sub-netting), and media types and connectors. In addition to live demonstrations, Keith includes protocol analyses (using a protocol analyzer to show the details of what is really happening on the network) to reinforce the concepts and ideas learned in the videos.
Keith Barker joins Team Nuggets full-time
Keith Barker started making a Network+ series for CBT Nuggets about a month ago, and the feedback we’ve received is that you love his training. We’re thrilled to announce that you’ll be seeing a lot more videos from Keith, as he’s now a full-time CBT Nuggets trainer. Keith’s next series will be CCNA Security. And he’s still making several MicroNuggets each week.
In addition to having CISSP and CCIE (Security and routing and switching) credentials, Keith is an industry veteran and has authored Cisco press books. But most importantly, he’s passionate about teaching. His dedication to helping people learn about technology is evident in his videos. Welcome aboard, Keith!
Navigate the Microsoft cert maze
Confused by the revamped Microsoft certifications? James Conrad explains the MCSA and MCSE tracks in this MicroNugget. James walks you through the exams needed to get the certifications, and illustrates the paths, including how to upgrade your 2008 certs to Server 2012.
To date, the NuggetLOVE program has resulted in $26,219 in charitable donations. Recently, we were thrilled to present Special Olympics representatives with a check for $4,910. Our charity for the month of August is Willamette Family, which offers substance abuse and mental health programs. In September, we’re supporting the local Honor Flight chapter. This organization pays for veterans to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit military memorials. You can find out more about NuggetLOVE on our website and our blog.
