The Project Management Institute (PMI)® recently published a blog post on “Three Hot Sectors for Project Management.” According to the post, aerospace/defense, technology, and healthcare and among the hottest sectors for project management jobs. A quick search of job site Indeed offers anecdotal evidence to back this claim. There a lot of advertised jobs for project managers in healthcare, defense, and tech –and they are jobs with good salaries.
The PMI post advises anyone looking to break into a new sector to get related experience in the field. In the post, David Shirley, PMP, an instructor in IT project management at Boston University, recommends “project managers who want to move into IT should gain experience in virtualization and sustainability,” and that “earning IT certifications and keeping up with trends” is a way to demonstrate knowledge in the field.
CBT Nuggets has plenty of IT certification training, useful for anyone looking to manage IT or tech projects. Now we also have some healthcare training: Michael Shannon’s in-progress CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician series preps viewers to earn the certification of the same name.
