Hi everyone, Several of my Exam Pack 70-432: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 MCTS students have sent me e-mail messages asking me how they can gain some hands-on experience with SQL Server 2008. Accordingly, I thought that I would devote my inaugural post here at the CBT Nuggets blog to sharing some practical suggestions with you.
Microsoft TechNet Virtual Labs
In my opinion, you really cannot beat the cost (free!) and convenience of the Microsoft Virtual Labs. Virtual Labs allow you Web browser-based access to one of Microsoft’s virtual machines from anywhere in the world and enable you to work through high-quality lab exercises that focus on various SQL Server 2008 administrative and development tasks. You can sign up for as many 90-minute time blocks as you want to, and you even can download and keep the print-quality lab manual.
SQL Server 2008 Downloadable VHD
If you want to practice along with the demonstrations that I’ve included in my CBT Nuggets training course, then a quick way to get prepared is to download the free virtual hard drive (VHD) file that Microsoft makes available to us:
In order to use the virtual hard drive, you will need to download and install a Microsoft virtualization product such as Virtual PC.
I hope that this brief blog post has been informative for you; thanks for reading and good luck in your certification studies!
