I've been interested in getting my MCITP for quite a while now. I've done a lot of freelance IT work, and I now work for a company with 3 offices and maybe 120 people all together. I've been hoping to get some certifications to increase my salary and qualify for more positions. I spent nearly a month deciding exactly what certification I wanted, and what type of classes I wanted. There are all sorts of options, Online classes, in-person classes, videos, books, etc... I started off with the Self-paced book, but found that while it was certainly helpful, it didn't lay out the information in the way I prefer. It was hugely detailed, and I plan to continue studying through the book, but I wanted more. I don't just want to pass the test, I want to make sure I know everything. Knowing this I began searching for the best company online and also asking my coworkers. Most of my coworkers had very little advice, so I searched forums. I don't normally trust what I find on forums.
As a cynic, I always believe that the reviews are written by employees or people paid to give good reviews, this leads me to seriously doubt any glowing perfect reviews. However the reviews that I found seemed trustworthy to me, specifically they were written by people with several certifications and compared several different methods and companies. Nearly every review that mentioned CBT Nuggets gave it high praise, and recommended it above the others. This was the first I'd heard of the company, since I'd been looking for inexpensive online classes. After looking at their prices, I decided that this was what I was going to do. I can't afford to pay $2000 or so for a single certification, but $600 for the 2 certifications that I want most is just wonderful. Again, as a cynic I doubt the quality of things that I find to be much cheaper than all alternatives, and had I not had over a dozen recommendations and reviews on trusted websites that seemed both fair and unbiased, I wouldn't have chosen CBT Nuggets. I also found several other offers for similar prices and far less video time, which simply sealed my choice. I put a lot of time and effort checking up on different offers and methods since at the time I believed I would be paying for the class out of pocket, however after I had settled on this program the owner of the company I work at offered to pay up to $500. Had he been willing to pay more, I would've gone for CBT's $2000 year-long all certifications program. I was also hugely impressed and encouraged by the $24 for 24 hours deal they had. When I see a company offering something like that, I know they're confident in their material. They aren't simply promising wonderful things in order to get subscriptions and then failing to live up to expectations.
