Message from Dan Charbonneau

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones.  I want to first express my gratitude for your time, your business, and all the positive feedback you've shared with CBT Nuggets and with your colleagues.  It's been a good year, with more product releases than we had planned, and the addition of several new instructors.  In the coming year, we plan to continue to produce training that is relevant to today's market.  Two new initiatives we're working on for next year is streaming Nuggets and Nuggets on a mobile device.  I've already been watching Nuggets on a Creative Zen as well as on my phone (Audiovox SMT 5600).  Very soon we'll have our system and videos upgraded to the point where we can deploy a mobile version to the public.

Regarding the streaming, I'd like to share an experience with you.  Through one of the iterations of a bookkeeping/accounting system for CBT Nuggets, I signed up for the leading web-based accounting software.  After 1 year and a number of good experiences, my subscription cost was literally quadrupled.  Being locked into this system from a data perspective, this cutthroat move was particularly hard to swallow, but one good thing that came from it was a renewed sense of enthusiasm because I can make sure that the customers of CBT Nuggets are not treated that way.  As more and more companies are doing whatever it takes to maximize short-term profits, it becomes easier and easier to stand out just by treating people fairly.  Our new streaming version will be $10 cheaper than standard retail and will be yours to stream for no additional money for life.  At any point, you can pay the $10 difference and shipping and get a CDROM.  For the corporate user, we've developed a streaming subscription that will be a model similar to the Nugget Archive Server.  You'll have a per-user annual fee to pay to gain access to all products.  You'll be quoted a renewal per-user fee at the time of purchase that will never change, not even for inflation.  You won't see "bait and switch" or any other "sleazy" marketing or sales strategy from CBT Nuggets.  I promise to always be straight with you, give you the absolute best training for what will always be a great deal.

Thank you again for your business and I wish you the best in 2005.

- Dan

Java Training Now Available

Mechanics and construction workers will all tell you that you can do a job better and faster if you have the right tools.  The same can be said for software developers - the right programming language can provide a superior solution in far less time.  That's the beauty of Java.  Java allows you to develop an application once and utilize it from a variety of platforms such as Windows, Macintosh, Linux and the Internet.

Programmers with Java skills are very much in demand.  We recently took a look at the Dice.com website and did a quick search to find that there were far more openings for Java related jobs than just about any other IT technology.

Our latest release offers training for the Sun Java 2 Platform and SCJP certification.  If you've ever considered a career in programming, these videos are a great way to get started.  Instructor Robert Barr covers the fundamentals of Java and continues on with intermediate and advanced concepts.  With our special New Release discount, you can save over 50% by purchasing the Java - SCJP Certification Package by December 31.

Secure Your Network and Your Future

If it seems like all we talk about these days is IT security, then you know that security continues to be an issue for organizations of all sizes.  In fact, the research firm Yankee Group recently determined that nearly $13 billion will be spent on IT security worldwide this year.  Of that spending, 42% went toward threat mitigation to help thwart worms, viruses, denial-of-service attacks and intrusions.

Firewalls and routers are key to threat mitigation and our new Cisco CCSP - SECUR training can help you learn the skills needed to configure and manage the security features of Cisco's products.

Having knowledge of IT security can also give you job security as analysts IDC predict that the growth of cyber-security professionals will grow at an annual compound rate of 14% through 2008, compared to 5%-7% of growth in IT jobs in general.

We have a lot of training available for IT security, from Security+ and ISA Server to Windows 2003 Security and CISSP, giving you many options to increase your knowledge and enhance your career:

Cisco CCSP: Exam-Pack 642-501 SECUR:  Learn how to set-up and manage security settings for Cisco firewalls, routers and VPN solutions.

Security+:  One of the first certifications to specifically address IT security issues and one of the best.  Security+ covers an array of topics including authentication, public keys, e-mail security, attacks and intrusion detection.

ISA Server:  Microsoft's Internet Security and Acceleration Server provides firewall, VPN, authentication and e-mail filtering capabilities, in addition to web caching, to increase Internet access performance.  This training shows you how to install, configure and administer an ISA Server and seamlessly integrate it within a Server 2003 environment.

Windows 2000 Security & Windows 2000 Security Design:  Focusing specifically on security features and functions of Microsoft Windows Server 2000, these videos make great training and reference material to support a Server 2000 infrastructure.

Windows 2003 Security:  This title focuses specifically on security features and functions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.  Those who know Windows 2000 Security and are migrating to 2003 can also benefit from this training.

MCSA: Security & MCSE: Security (For Windows Server 2000):  Microsoft believes security is important enough that they created a unique designation for MCSA and MCSE certifications with a focus on security.

MCSA: Security 2003:  A security specialist certification for Windows 2003 Administrators.

CISSP:  The CISSP is one of the most respected and highest paying certifications you can earn.  If you want to advance your career, this training delves into business law, ethics and working with law enforcement, making it perfect for those wanting to move into IT management and higher level positions.

Security Combo Package:  Our best value for IT Security training.  We've put together training for exams 70-214 (Windows 2000 Security), 70-220 (Windows 2000 Security Design), 70-227 ( ISA Server), CISSP and Security+ into one package that saves you $346.

Additional IT security training is scheduled for release soon with videos for Server 2003 Security Design, a full MCSE: Security 2003 track and the remainder of the Cisco CCSP track currently in development.
