Project Change Management

This Nugget is the first of six of Nuggets that covers the fourth segment of the Project+ Exam – Change, Control and Communication. This Nugget focuses on the processes that are related to Change Management. With good effective Change Management in place we are able to position our project for success by controlling ALL changes to the project’s scope, schedule, budget, etc. and ensuring that these changes are managed and approved. Effective Change Management ensures that all potential changes to a project are analyzed to determine to total impact of the change against all 9 project management elements and the resultant analysis is presented back to the business owner for approval for inclusion into the project. Effective change management ensures that all changes, however small and seemingly insignificant are managed, eliminating “scope creep”, an uncontrolled process where changes are absorbed into the project without approval or impact identification.

As a PM, I get to manage multi-million dollar budgets, track and monitor progress, troubleshoot and resolve problems, interact with lots of different people every day, and most importantly, celebrate project delivery successes on a regular basis. I can’t think of another job that provides all these perks."
