Message From the Owner of CBT
Nuggets
It's been a
great year at CBT Nuggets. We've hired some fantastic
trainers and have been able to put out a number of products
including the long-awaited Exchange 2000 (sorry for the delay on
that one) and the Server 2003 videos. We've also grown
into our new facility in Eugene, OR. CBT Nuggets has
become a fairly large business as compared to 1999 when it was
one person from home, but we do still maintain a friendly,
family-owned atmosphere (literally, the bookkeeper is my
Mother-in-Law, and the Office Manager is my favorite Aunt).
We're currently at a staff level of 19, seven administrative and
twelve trainers.
I mean this
sincerely when I say that everyone here at CBT Nuggets really
appreciates your business, and your willingness to spread the
word about us to your colleagues. For those of you who
have e-mailed me before, you'll notice that I'll almost always
include some type of message of appreciation. I do mean
it, it isn't an auto-signature :) this business wouldn't exist
without you. Thank you again and happy holidays.

Is the IT Recession Over?
According to
VARBusiness Magazine’s December 1st issue, the IT
recession is over based on feedback and surveys of the
VARBusiness 500 solution-provider executives. The third quarter
of 2003 saw solid results for resellers of IT products and
services and have forecasted even more spending for Q4.
87% of the
resellers surveyed, reported meeting or exceeding their revenue
goals in Q3 and 74% expect that trend to continue.
Additionally, solution-provider personnel have more work coming
in with new projects, installations and upgrades. So, as
always, we ask “What does this mean for you?”. If resellers are
selling more and their employees are busier, that means
companies are buying more IT products and services. And, if
companies are buying, then hiring can’t be far off.
In fact, 55% of
the VARs surveyed, stated they would be hiring for their own
staff with only 3% looking to decrease personnel. These numbers
are a marked improvement over the 12% that planned on reducing
staff earlier this year. What’s driving this growth? More than
half the respondents noted that Linux is gaining ground in
“critical applications” such as web servers, application
development tools, database management, e-mail and groupware.
Coincidently,
we’ve just released training for RHCE Linux and a new Linux
Combo Pack. This is a great opportunity to build your skills in
a growing technology.

New Products - Now Shipping
RHCE and the
Linux Combo Pack are just two of the new products we’ve
released over the past month. Covering beginning Linux with the
Linux+ Certification Pack, and intermediate to advanced
Linux in the RHCE Package, the Linux Combo Pack provides a
simple and complete solution to learn Linux.
Also recently
released is the
A+ 2003 Update. The update only contains the new material
on the revised A+ exam and is designed for those who already own
our A+ training or are already certified and are looking to keep
their knowledge current. In fact, we’ve updated all our A+
products and A+ combo packages with the new 2003 material and
the product descriptions and our web store now note that they
contain the A+ 2003 Update as part of the packages.
Those who have
earned an MCSE 2000 can now upgrade their certification to MCSE
2003 with our new
MCSE 2003 Upgrade Combo Pack that includes videos for exams
70-292 and 70-296. If you’ve already purchased our
70-292 training, then all you need is the
70-296: MCSE 2003 Upgrade. These videos are now shipping
and you can save money during our new release
discount.
We’ve just
released
CCNP-CIT training covering troubleshooting and support of
Cisco Internetworks. You’ll learn how to diagram and monitor
networks as well as how to diagnose and resolve issues related
to the speed and reliability of the network. Cisco is a leading
technology and the CIT videos are a great way for a
CCNA to increase their skills while working towards the CCNP
certification.
Okay, we
thought we were done for the year with new releases, but we now
have videos for
Word 2000,
for the Microsoft Office Specialist exam
available for download. MS Word is used by
practically everyone, but very few are aware of how to use
formatting tools, tables and charts to their fullest extent.
Also available for download is an
MOS 2000 Combo Pack with training for Word,
Excel and
PowerPoint. The shipping version of Word will be
available by the end of the month so make sure you are signed up
to receive our
New
Release Messages to get notification when it is released.
You can keep up
with all the new releases as well as up-coming products by
visiting our
Videos in Development page for the latest information.

Year-end Budgets
Many companies
and government organizations are closing out their fiscal year
at the end of the month and are left with the dreaded
“use-it-or-lose-it” funds in their budgets. Often times there
isn’t quite enough money to buy what you need, or you are
waiting for a new product to ship but don’t want to lose the
money you’ve budgeted. A simple way to put that budget money to
work is with our
Credit Vouchers. Available in $10 increments, Credit
Vouchers are applicable to any product we sell and never
expire. They are a perfect way to “bank” training money for
future purchases.

If you have
multiple people to train on different certifications and
technologies, the
Nugget Archive Server is a great solution. It was designed

offer a variety of classes on a limited budget, as well as for
corporations and government organizations that require a
convenient and inexpensive way to train their personnel.
The Nugget
Archive Server is licensed for 10 concurrent users and contains
every video we sell. Now you can also get every video we
release in 2004 with our 2004 Subscription. The 2004
Subscription is available for $1999 to existing Nugget Archive
Server clients. Additionally, on

Personal
Nugget Library - NEW
Our
Nugget Archive Server clients have come to appreciate having
the newest videos available for download without having to place
an order every time we have a new release, and now you can too
with our
Personal Nugget Library. Just like the Nugget Archive
Server, the Personal Nugget Library contains every video we sell
along with every video we release in 2004.
The
difference? Instead of a 10 concurrent user license, the
Personal Nugget Library is licensed for one user only and comes
on a USB portable hard drive instead of a network enabled
storage device.
You’re thinking
“I’ve already purchased so much stuff from CBT Nuggets. I don’t
want to spend more money to get videos I already have”. No
problem. We’ll credit every dollar you’ve ever spent with us
(including shipping!), towards purchase of the Personal Nugget
Library (Click
here for more info).
