CRN Salary Survey – MCSE's and Citrix CCA’s receive substantial gains

Industry salary surveys always provide good insight into the IT job market and the latest comes from the July issue of CRN magazine.   Overall, the survey shows decent gains over the previous year with Citrix CCA and MCSE certification holders seeing the largest percentage improvements in salary.  Those with a Citrix CCA had a salary increase of 9.5% to an average salary of $77,500.  MCSEs showed a 7.7% gain and a $71,500 average salary.

One of the key findings of the survey showed that technicians and engineers with multiple certifications had a significantly higher level of compensation as well as greater increases in pay.  With the job market being tight, it is important for employers to get value from their staff and those certified in multiple products and technologies provide greater staffing flexibility.  As an example, CRN shows an average salary for an MCSE with no other certification as $63,900, while an MCSE who has other certifications as well, had an average salary of $73,200.

If that isn’t a compelling reason to go after that next certification, I don’t know what is.  We’d like to help you get started by announcing our recent release of training videos for the Citrix CCA exam.  Citrix helps improve the speed, performance and reliability of multi-user networks and remote access/control capability using thin-client technology.  Over 50 million people and 99% of the Fortune 500 use Citrix MetaFrame products to access their networks.

Learn how to install, configure and administer MetaFrame XP from Elias Khnaser, co-author of the book Configuring Citrix MetaFrame XP Including Feature Release 1.  Elias knows his stuff and it comes through in his enthusiasm for teaching Citrix.  You’ll get great tips and tricks that you can use on the job and all the knowledge you’ll need to get certified.

Bill Gates Speech – The need for more programmers

Bill Gates recently spoke to faculty and researchers from 115 universities and stated that the market for software development jobs in the US remains strong and needs more qualified candidates.  Gates also noted that the hardware advancements in processing power, speed and storage capabilities will help deliver software advances, making it feasible to develop more secure software and software for service on wireless phones and devices.

Microsoft’s .NET platform and use of XML in their XP products are a perfect example of the direction the software industry is going, toward a standards-based platform geared toward interoperability.  There are more opportunities than ever to be involved in the “creative” side of IT.  Even if you aren’t a programmer, understanding .NET and XML is crucial to the flow of data and information between servers, applications and over the web.

Our new Intro to VB.NET and Intro to XML videos give you an overview of the technologies and provide a great foundation to build your skills.  Webmasters, database administrators, network engineers and systems administrators will all gain valuable knowledge into how data is exchanged as well as how applications are created and communicate.  For developers and programmers, VB.NET is among the latest tools in use to build turnkey and custom solutions.  Both of these videos are currently $49 on a new release special.

Now Available- MCSA 2003 Upgrade Exam-Pack and VB.NET Web Apps

We're very excited to unveil our new Videos in Development Interface.  We've been offering electronic delivery of our videos for some time now, and with this new interface, we can now offer videos for sale in a download-only format as soon as the series is completed.  It takes 2-3 weeks to have the CDs replicated, packaged and shrink-wrapped.

Ultimately, what this means to you is that (provided you have a high-speed connection to the Internet) you can now order a video series that you've been waiting for 2-3 weeks earlier.  When you order via electronic delivery, you can always opt (with the click of a button in the download interface) to have your product shipped in the future if you want the original media.  Right now we have two series that are scheduled to ship later this month but available for ordering and electronic delivery today: MCSA 2003 Upgrade Exam-Pack and VB.NET Web Apps.

MCSA 2003 Upgrade Exam-Pack:   It’s a great time to learn about Windows Server 2003.  The MCSA 2003 Upgrade Exam-Pack is taught by James Conrad, a highly respected consultant and author.  Take a look at his bio and you’ll be as impressed as we are.  We couldn’t ask for a better instructor for this title.  The training prepares you for exam 70-292.  By passing that one exam, your MCSA is upgraded from 2000 to 2003.  Click on Videos in Development to buy now.

VB.NET Web Apps Exam-Pack: If you want to delve further into programming, our new title, Developing and Implementing Web Applications with VB.NET, Exam-Pack 70-305, is now available via electronic delivery.  This training builds upon our Intro titles and gets you on your way toward the MCAD or MCSD for .NET.  Software programs that run over the Internet are becoming an important component in company strategies.  At CBT Nuggets, we rely on multiple web-based applications to keep the company thriving. Click on Videos in Development to buy now.

Coming in mid August, we will have training for Exchange Server 2000.  One of our newest trainers, author and speaker Michael Shannon, is nearing completion of the videos and is excited about the opportunity to teach you how to install, configure and manage a dedicated e-mail server.  Check out the new Videos in Development page for a sneak preview of one of the videos from that series.
